About the fig tree

I left my original backyard fig tree at my previous house where it's the main attraction in a tiny backyard.
My current fig will be espaliered
on a white, sunny stone wall. Training will be a bit tricky since the branches are so angular. I'll do anything for delicious figs—even fight with squirrels. Lately I've seen them beautifully potted as tall standards. That's my next project. Pictures to come.

The Wisteria is in bloom

Bees are busy. The Wisteria drapes itself on a trellis on the front of our house and smells heavenly. Purple petals drip to form a carpet below and later velvety seed pods will hang like so many ornaments. Looking up they become lavendar wheels.

  1. Hi Bea...
I was just talking to Diana and she told me to come and see your garden. Lovely! Is that really a baby cardinal? Looks more like a song sparrow, or maybe a something else. Your wisteria is gorgeous. What kind of bird is sitting there? Scarlet tanager, maybe?

  2. Hi Vicki,

Nice of you to visit my garden! I thought the hatchling was a baby cardinal because it was in the same place where the adult birds flew. I'll have to investigate what a baby cardinal looks like. The red bird is a cardinal but of course I photoshopped it to bring up the color. I'm having a really great time watching all the things that happen in my garden. I got so excited taking the photograph that I had to post the pictures online. It reminds me of how Diana reacted when she stopped working. She was so entranced by spring and gardens and being able to have all the time to do just what she wanted. Now, after almost a year, post job, I can relate to that.

    Please come back.

    Bea
